David unfortunately they had a fight while i was busy moving house , the female killed the male and she died from her wounds 2 days after but the male always seemed the dominant one. - had a 6x2 for them .

Yeah i'm already registered on the OBE forum and waiting for the import bussiness to re-open

yeah ive herd alor of stories about the female killing the male with festae, big cichlids male killed his tri mar female tho. sorry for your lose, i would be gutted if that happened. ever thought about growing some more or getting another pair from trimar
yeah iam waiting for them to re-open. hopefull wont be long

My festae juvies from BIG_CICHLID seem to think that they exist to kill each other. They're really nasty even at 1.5"!

Apparently the best way to keep pairs of festae is to have an 'egg crate' divider with a door cut in it big enough for the female to get through, but not the male. That way if they 'divorce' they can get away from one another and cool off between bouts of doing what festae enjoy best i.e. beating the crap out of each other and any other fish they don't like the look of.

Post pics of your female when she colours up. I would dearly love to see 'em!

BTW, anyone know at what age you can properly sex young festae? Mine all look female right now, but I'm wondering if once they hit sexual maturity (I'm guessing 3-4" plus) then the males will start to look different.

Any ideas? Don't really want to end up with 4 females, gorgeous though they are!

i think you tell by the top fin, the female has a blue patch and the male doesnt.... you'd be very unlucky if you got 4 females when you want a pair.
iam thinking about a pair just need another tank:(
post some pics of yours bluejax
