Sex the Cincta

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I snapped a few pics of her tonite. She grew a little bit since last time. She just ate right before I took the pics, she ate so much she can't close her mouth...typical. My crappy camera can't seem to pick up the Cincta sheen on her sides very well.

I'm still guessing she's female unless someone says different.

Very awesome cinta Balton. Thought females had dorsal spots though?

I'm not sure what to look for visually. I've been told that females have a white line thru the dorsal fin and a rounded belly.

What do these spots look like? I haven't seen many Cinctas...maybe I'll do a search and look for some pics.

I don't believe any of the lugubris group get dorsal spots. Great looking fish. Bulking up nicely.

Its still fairly young, so I wouldn't rule it out as male just yet, but it is shaping up to be female yes.

My male lenticulata has a semiclear band in his dorsal, where as my female has a full on white one. So the white band in the dorsal, especially at such small sizes, can be misleading. Either way you have a fantastic, simply gorgeous fish! I love it!

Crenicichla sp. 'atabapo II' gets a splotch in the dorsal for females, but generally its normally restricted to Saxatilis/Reticulata/Dwarf group pikes.

Viction ~ Can you get a picture of that?! That would be fantastic!
