I did not have time to elaborate earlier...
Your male is young and developing...your pics show he does have quite a bit of blue under his eye gill plate and ventral fins...at the size he appears looks that blue will increase
And it's the horizontal small dot pattern that yours has that is the most defining male trait that i see in your Dovii...look at all the other male Dovii you can find on this forum and you will see what i am saying... nice fish good luck with him:)
