i see how that one shot looks female...but notice how the colors aren't vibrant and you see a lot more of that dull gold? it really looks like a male. a very gorgeous looking male, actually. i think you'll see it becoming more and more obvious as he grows a bit more.
I see what you mean balton777. my male is being pissy tonight and I do see some of that black on the dorsal, its not like the females blotch at all. I'm still learning about festae. Good info perfect example of why festae are not sexable at a young age lol
The "Blotch" on the dorsal might not be a blotch at all it can be barring that is compressed. This can be seen in males frequentley esp. when they are in their breeding dress. I looked hi and lo but I have no picks of compressed barring. Heres one showing the differences in the dorsal coloration during breeding. When the male relaxes his dorsal the black barring becomes compressed where as the females single horizontal bar is constent.
The lack of blue along the body in most of the pics and the lack of the elongated dorsal fin extension make it impossible for me to say 100% either way. Your gonna have to make that determinination yourself.
