up till now there isnt anyway to tell the sex of arowana by looking at it.

you gotta wait till one of them drop eggs and then u will know its a female..

and if they manage to breed, the male is usually the one that broods the eggs in his mouth. though there are instances where female will do so, but rare..

Thanks for the heads up. Any idea on how to trigger a spawning, or do I just sit back and let nature take its course?

It isnt a sure fire way but a deeper mouth is an indicator that its a male since they are mouth brooders.

More frequent water changes also try spraying the water back into your tank rather than pouring it in, Also try raising the water temperature a little bit. And there is always feeding them more food than you would normally give them.

you need a pond or a huge tank.
you need to get a group of about 10 of them, and then let them select each other.
then the pair will pair up, and they will do courtship dance, like swim together around and rub body close together..

then the rest is up to luck whether they will finally mate and the eggs hach into fries..

the male will brood the eggs in his mouth till they become free swimming. the farms usually harvest them at the time when the fries have hatch and their egg yolk sack are half to 1/3 left..
