Sexing Bichir

Why wiuld they be so expensive over there? Here in canada sengal bichirs go for 20 bucks a pop

Yeah, exactly. Very hard to get here, not allowed to import and most fish are illegal - restrictions and quarantine are very strict here. It sucks so much, but there isn't a lot we can do about it. So it's pay big dollars for the few you can get your hands on and in most cases you have to be careful not to get caught with certain species. Some states (like mine) have inspections and won't let things like plants/shrimp/exotics/etc. across the border.

So yeah, the fish trade over here is limited. /: A lot of freshwater eels are banned in Australia which is a bummer because I'd love a fire eel! Oh well, I'm happy with what I can get. :)

It's ridiculous. As things like l046 are anywhere between 650(cheapest I've seen) to 1200 each for 3cm. L134's can range between 1000 for a trio and crazy prices like that for anything that is hard to get. I've seen other bichir at 12cm for 1200, pairs of L046 breeding size you need about 4000-5000k. Cheapest L's are generally 397's and 104's for about 300 a trio. It is expensive here.

That seems like complete bull**** to me i guess they dont want invasive species and stuff, but fire eels? Really?!?! Mines awesome! Its the friendliest fish i have in the friggin tank and isnt dangerous in the slightest, plus if their cheap here so they should go for like 10 buck in australia
