I am curious to know if any of you experienced cichla keepers have noticed what I have.

I believe I can quickly and easily sex bass over 12 " or so.

When looking at the bass from a side view in the tank my females all have a very small protruding piece of skin at the ovipositer area, all the time.

The males are just completely smooth and slightly diveted in the anal region.

So... Has anyone else confirmed this theory?

POinted anal fins are males and the rounded ones are females.:D

anal fins are easiest to determine sex, other wise just vent if fish is large enough easy to vent just looking through the tank when fish is up high in the water

Man I think I have a tank full of females.....that's why they're bickering...too much estrogen for one tank;)

You guys having breeding Cichla should take them write down the characteristics and pics and post here.

Im really confuse about the sexing.. Ive been venting some and could really tell the difference.
Saw anywhere that the hump can also appears in female, but never saw it in female live.
Fins? Never heard about it, so I have no oppinion about it.

It's simple, you just ask them to lift their skirt. There's already is a sexing thread in here somewhere. Hayn's way is fairly accurate, I've had a female with pointed though.
