Sexing convicts for breeding (help an eager noobie)

Thanks, I really appreciate the help. I got the tank setup late last night and I'm cycling it for the next few days. I can get another tank from the fish guy for cheap especially if I get a 15 which should be all I need for the fry.

How do you go about removing them after they hatch? net? siphon?
I'm thinking since the ones at the fish store are smallish, most not quite 2 inches some 2.5, and the fish store gives them to me for really cheap, $4 a pair, That I'll get four, two of each and see if I can get them to pair up.

Is sand a good substrate? and what do I feed the fry, I've read crushed up flake food.
Thanks again
Matt

Nice to see another WI person on here too BTW.

Remove the fry with a siphon, you can remove the fry within a couple days of becoming frr swimming. It will take 2-3 weeks before the female will be ready to spawn again, this is where the males aggression is a problem. I would ecommend seperating the male and female for a couple weeks.

For convicts 2-2.5" is not small, they are more then mature enough to breed. Buy more than a pair of convicts is a waste of time and money. Get a male and female hey will pair up. At the size those are I would watch for ones that have paired already at the fish store.

Ground up flake food is fine.
