^ agree completely. I found that with my eight the amount of blue in the fins varied from almost nothing to lots, but only the one male didn't have black int he dorsal, the others that all turned out to be girls did.

Also, I would get them in a larger tank very soon. Some people may disagree with me but I found that having Festae in larger aquariums with hiding spots led to healthier and faster growing fish. I know at 3" that it seems that a 20gal is big enough but even as juveniles these cichlids need their space.

100% agere, and not just festae too, any fish from arowanas to plecos. Bigger tanks = more growth and bigger fish, "grow out" tanks will slow the growth even if they look big enough at the time. I was growing out my 8 juvi festae in an 80g (48x20x20") and moved the pair to the 210g as soon as they paired up and I could positively identify them, probably around 3.5-4". They had a good growth spurt despite having to compete with 30 clown loaches for food and they're still steadily growing now. Even though their current size of ~8" would make most people say they would be fine in the 80g I disagree, and know that they would be considerably smaller if they were still in there.
