Sexing Jack Dempseys

Hi Edward, yes, I'd lean toward female as well. The blue under the gill plate is what makes it seem more female than male.

Is there another JD in the tank? The darker coloration suggests either in breeding mode or some stress/aggression. It looks like my JDs when they are in breeding coloration.

Great pics and good looking fish --- all of them :). I love the orange on the female convicts.

Its the only jack Dempsey in there with about 4 other convicts and a senegal bichir.

Yes, from a few years back tho. Here is that picture but uncropped. You can see her mate she is all colored up for.

The male was an EBJD that was later given to YankeeJack YankeeJack . Here he is all grown up.
