Here’s my 3.5” JD don’t know whether it’s male or female as it has the speckling of a male AND the blue beard of a female...E576504E-E497-4CAB-B01B-9BB5D7E0FB01.jpegD22B8A32-3554-4CA2-A386-4E5DF9BD331F.jpeg

Looks like an EBJD "Electric Blue Jack Dempsey"

This version is near impossible to sex till you see it's interaction with a known sex std JD, or witness it breeding, or venting.

Is it cohabing with any other fish?

Here is a pair I had. The female on the right. And a male EBJD on the right.

it’s cohabing with a Severum and threadfin geo. It was sold to me as a normal Jack Dempsey. Here’s a pic when it was younger at 1.5 and 2.5 inches 48FF75FA-CE27-4399-B51C-B5632AE57FED.jpeg

Hard to say. Same reason lots of other cichlids show poor colors when young. Stress or being subordinate. Some fish dont start to color up until they reach a certain size, age and dominance within the tank.

I believe it’s referred to as a blue gene Jack Dempsey. Not exactly a EBJD but carries the genes for them.

That’s sounds more realistic the speckles on mine looks nothing like an EBJD which is more like patches of the blue mines got speckles so I’m gonna call it a blue gene JD. Also explains why it’s growing so slow
