Yup, when the female festaes get the blue/purple in the pelvic and dorsal fin it stays for life........

here is a picture of my female that is roughly 7". you can see how the front half of her dorsal is (in this pic) a dark bluish color. sometimes it's blue and sometimes it's black...just depends on her mood.

sorry I haven't been able to reply back till now. My Festeas range in size from 1.75-3". All have black marks on there dorsal fins. I'll try to get some pis of them up here soon. I was told they are all wild caught, they came from Gunkel down in Florida.So. I'll see what I can do about some pics . Thanks for all the info.
