Sexing juvi JD's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hello, here is what i would do... go buy 2 more keep them for a while and you will notice a bond form between some of them....theses are the best pairs you can get because they are together by choice not by need....then sell off the ones you dont want....
as far as sexing them goes i have a hard time too... but what i think you should look for is as follows:
if you look at the darker fish in your pics notive the blue spots right below the eyes.... now notice the spots that run right along the bottom of "cheek/jaw" line....
what you should do is look for a fish with blue in that bare area...that would be a female w/o a doubt....
dont give up color and quality attempting to insure sex.... the new pick up you have is a little boring...no offence...
but your best bet is to get a few more and wait it out.
hope this helps

Hey thanks! Think I'll take your advise and just get some more. No offense taken at all however it does lead me to another question. Obviously very new to JD's. As I said, when I selected that other one it was extremely dark in the store. But it has retained this lighter appearance since putting it together with the darker one. So how should I go about selecting nice juvi JD's? Any thoughts?

They both look male here to me.

Any ideas on the best filtration for my 220G South American tank.

Thanks for looking. You may want to post your question in a different forum so it will be seen/responded to. sounds like a great collection you've got!
