sexing La Ceiba loisellei

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had this fish about a month. I got two, and this one killed the one I thought for sure was a male.

Hi Guys, First I don't thnk they are Losielli, but a new species. I call them Parachromis sp La Ceiba, I was calling them Parachromis sp. "Warreni" after the guy who caught all 5 of the wild adults in captivity, but some of the purist were giving me hell. I still label the tanks in my hatchery "Warreni". LOL
Here's the father and mother of all the fry I've sold, I've had 4 spawns so far, Fish from the first spawn should be 3-4" by now, I'm selling fish out of the second spawn right now. Male grow very fast coampared to the females and start eating their smaller syblings, I have to breed them through a divider and the male nearly killed the female not long after I brought them back from Honduras and it took me months to grow her scales and fins back. We are lucky there are fry at all! They do not have cheek spots on the males like many Parachromis, but the males are much more colorful getting a lot of blue and purple in the body and fins with the bright yellow head. Females are yellow with a purple sheen. Here is mom and dad. at about 6". Ken

Once again, that male is a good-looking fish IMO.

Yeah, Ken, I agree. I don't think they look close enough to p. loisellei to be a different strain. Very cool fish though!

The top one resembles my friedrichsthalli. Those must be a new strain or something. Cause neither look like my loisellei's.
