how can i tell what my guys are? I have three veil tail oscars and i was justwondering if there was a way to tell if they're boys, girls or both? If anyone has an idea for me, I'd love to hear it.
Also, how do you start a "chichlid" tank. I know my oscars are chichlids, but i haven't done anything special to the water or substrate to make it a "chichlid" tank. Any ideas?

wait to see if the oscars pair up, if they do then most likely you have a pair and will probably beat up on the 3rd. if your oscars are doing well in their water conditions then you should be able to add some more CA and SA cichlids. just research each species before adding as some are very aggressive.

You cannt really tell males and females apart by just looking at them , the best way is to watch them when they pair up and see which one lays the eggs .

wow, thanks
So i can or cannot add CA or SA's in with these guys? I was originally thinking of just starting a new Chichlid tank, but am not sure of how to do it. Ideas?

you can add oscars together with SA or CA cichlids, it just depends which species, because you'll want to avoid the more aggressive ones. I'd go with SA species like geo's and some of the bigger acaras.

if your oscars are doing fine set the tank up the same way. You could add other species but do research on the species you are interested in or just ask here on the forum.

Sorry, but that is not going to hold 3 oscars for life, in fact theres a debate on whether or not a 55 or 75 is large enough just to hold one oscar for life, the fact that you have three of them however impresses me, thier not too common around here, they just sometimes come in with the regs.
