HOW Do you tell if you have a male or female ? Its rely imposable to tell:irked:
I wish we could . The only rely sher way to tell is if you see you fish lay eggs
(ITS A FEMALE) .
They will spawn at around 6 inches .
Hope this was help full more than disceriging

Yea, you can't really tell. A couple people tell me maybe you can try sexing by how thick they are around the stomach, but not really... The best thing to do is to get a good group of them together. You would have to be extremely lucky to have those 2 p's you have be a pair unless they were bought as a breeding pair. Red bellies are the only p's that are "easy" to spawn.

What kind of piranha you sexing and what are the tank size?

Red bellies are the easiest to sex out of all piranha species. You can not just randomly take 2 piranha and sex them.

As for red bellies usually the male are longer and skinnier then the female. The female got bigger stomach and look short and fat. However you still can not tell by looking at them. You can only know once the breed and pair up, other wise you don't know.

Best is to get a grow of 4-5 in large tank and go from there.

ok, a little off topic, and prolly rather dumb, but i have a piraya n caribe, i know they are different species, but why couldnt they "pair off", it seems that if different types of dogs can breed, its possible for the piraya n caribe, again im knowingly asking a dumb question, but i do not really know the answer and im curious

Personally, my garanteed way of obtaining a breeding pair is buying a dozen or so 1-2 inch individuals and growing them out in a big tank....As far as "eyeing" a pygo in hopes of sexing, good luck......Originally, I thought males were longer and slimmer, while the females had a more egg shape and chubby stomach...The best way is to do a 50% water change and then beef the temperature up to 82-84 degrees...If the specimen are sexual mature, your chances are high that someone will show some type of response to the water change...You will some darkening color(almost jet black)...Pretty much this is a great sign....Then they will do the pairing themselves and blow a nest in the gravel....Be sure to have at (4)10g fry tanks setup, or (2)55g....The fry grow really fast if fed upon bbs...I had fry feed on cocktail shrimp at 5 or 6 weeks of age.....

not a dumb question

only some breeds of dogs are compatible (the dna has to be compatable)
if they arnt it wont work
i dont know what their dna is so i cant answer it fully

more things: they arnt bred in captivity so it makes it even rarer for them if they did a mixed species breed

they come from two different locations (rio orrinoco (cariba-venezala) and rio san fransisco (piraya-brazil)

technically if rbp and terns are the same species they should breed but even with them i dont think it has been accomplished

you have more chance breeding red bellies and tern (yellow bellies) then red and piraya.

All breeds of dog are of the same species, so they can all interbreed. Size restrictions apply when considering the sex of the dogs. (ie a male chihuahua can breed with a female great dane, but a male great dane cannot breed with a female chihuahua)
