Recently about a month or so ago MY wife and my mom for my birthday decided while I was at the hospital for a unexpected stay to order some fish for my gift. 2 of them are Festae. Im trying to sex these two fish so I can keep a Male. Currently Ive got room for only one of them as is the case with several of the fish I got multiples of in hopes to end up with some nice fish. So id like some input on sexing these two Festae ive got.
Ive got them both labeled (due to some differences) to tell the difference. Ive been reading and seaching everywhere for some info on doing this. Ive read others threads. So here we have it Festae #1 and Festae #2. I know some of the potential signs to look for in a festae is the blue dotted spangling in the fins. Especially the tail fin. It is possible though that even in some cases and breedings of Festae a Female can have the spangling. But one of the other things that ive read that sticks out is a Femal will get a Black Dorsal fin. After reading some threads and talking a very little with some various memebers especially rearding a post from Freshwaterpredators about this black in the dorsal fin. That Sometimes the dorsal can have dark coloration (hope im getting this correct) That can appear black but its not. I think I have 2 males in my tank. Just my current opinion. BUT Id like some better clarification if im right or not and What you all that are much more experinced at this believe they are. The fish are currently about 3.5 to 4.5 inches.
Festae #1 has spangling all over the body including the fins/tailfin. BUT Festae #1 also has a very dark Dorsal fin that sometimes looks black. BUT in many other angles its more of a very dark blue/greenish. It has a different hue in color when the fish expands its dorsal and the light hits it right. Its got the Stripes on its body some reds are starting to appear. Some greenish yellow coloration as well. I think Festae 1 and Festae 2 have different length heads or slopes. BUT it may be just the angles of the views. Both act VERY dominate and the only fish they bow to are the Jag and the Black Belt. For the most part everyone gets along.
Festae #2 Has s
pangling EVERYWHERE BUT not very much to almost no spangling on the tail fin. BUT Ive never seen any real black look to the dorsal fin. While it does have some dark coloration its definitly not black. This fish has more Yellow/Green to it then Festae #1.
So here are the Pictures. (apologize for some of the bad shots done with my Pphone)
First up is Festae #1
You can see the color difference in some shots where the dorsal looks black but sometimes does not.

Here is Festae #2

And Both together

Sorry for the long post. BUT Im trying to learn what I can and see with some experince and time how to do some of this along with support from others I can learn from. Thanks for your time to look in on this and give me your thoughts.
