Ok so I have a few green terrors that are around the two inch mark. I was wondering if there is a way to sex them when they are this small. I was looking at them yesterday and noticed that two have different head shapes. One's head is smoothly rounded up to the dorsal fin, and the others head is more pointed and has what looks to be a small bump up twords the dorsal fin. I would post pics to show but my camera is broken. Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Julio

not sure, but I picked this one with the belief its a male long and pointy fins with lots of color.

I understand the finnage difference but at the size of my fish i cant see much of a difference in finnage but I do see a difference in the structure of their heads.

the pointed/rounded fins is one of the least accurate ways to sex most large cichlids. pointed fins, thick colour bands, most aggressive juvenile in a tank full of GT, less sloped head shape (more like a breeze block), nuchual hump and lots of blue worming on the face are all ways said to determine male.
granted if you have most or all of them in one fish then its probably male but the only sure fire way is to vent them or see it fertilise eggs.

bigriver, that handsome beast looks male.

males have a much larger looking head than females.

Best way to tell for me is the coloring in the fins. Or the lack of coloring. Males have the more colorful fins where females have no coloring at all, or very little.

Heres my Male. He about 5.5 inches and his "pointed" fins only started pointing when he his the 4.5 inch mark.
