This is my pair of Polypterus senegalus from Lake Turkana.
One of the first Turkana senegalus in captivity except Japanese hobbiests.
You can clearly see make has much rounder head and deeper brown-green color and female has much pointy head.
Since i try to get this pair, i've been saw more than 200pcs of Turkana senegalus in Japan and direct shipment from Kenya but this is very common difference between male and female Turkana senegalus.
This difference become even more dramatic when they are sexually matured so many other turkana senegalus owners who got this species this and last year will see this difference themselves in one or two more years.
(I got mine in 2017 from Rep Japan ltd, one of only two company that visit Lake Turkana and collect, import fish themselves with permission of local villagers)
My male Turkana senegalus around 45cm now.
(it took 3 years to reach this size from 31~32cm)
Female Turkana senegalus around 42cm with male Nigerian senegalus around 30cm.
Quite interesting thing is when i try to breed Turkana senegalus, they have very different breeding trigger with Nigerian senegalus and much harder to breed than nigerian one.
I also tried to breed male nigerian senegalus with female turkana senegalus but nigeran senegalus didn't do any courtship behavior to turkana senegalus even when they are fully triggered.
It need further check because i had to shut down whole breeding process because female turkana senegalus bite nigerian male almost to death.
I also can see fight between turkana senegalus commonly but not with other species.
(Think they are quite terrestrial)

You can also see there is same type of senegalus with nigerian one in western part of Africa like chad, guinea or Burkina faso (based on Lake Tanganyika) but there is "turkana-typed" senegalus in eastern part of Africa based on Lake Tanganyika like Nile river, Uganda and Lake Turkana.
In my guess, they are different species or in speciation now because of reproductive isolation by East African district (it include Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi and Lake victoria)
If anyone can study about this with molecular biological ways, it will be very interesting.
