I have 4 Geo proximus just want to know if any are males?

Is it the same as most Geo with the ones with the long fins being the males i will post pics when i get home.

Fins aren't a good choice, sometimes, females have better finnage than the males. Catch them turn em upside down, a females vent will be larger, if they all look the same, wait a little longer, and check again, that is the only reliable way to sex Geos. :)

here are some pics of them. I am gessing the first might be the male coz of the colours of the fins compared to the others.

The one with red fins is a different Geo, maybe Dicrozoster, see the black mark on the chin and the tail has white spots instead of stripes. Need a better profile shot showing the fright pattern.

The big male looks proximus to me because proximus have a black bar on their jaw and a big lateral spot. Dicrozoster are generally more elongate. If you can try and get shots of all the geos that way we can try and make a positive ID.

I agree that venting is the most reliable way to sex geos.

The larger one with all the red looks like proximus to me. I'm pretty sure the others are not though. They look like they are pindare.

I'd need better pictures to be sure, specifically of the tails, but I think the first is G. winemilleri and rest are G. pindare. Maybe a small chance they are G. parnaibae

Dang. I was close. I think you are right about the first 2 pics Ed, I looked up winemilleri and it looks pretty close. I thought proximus because of the red on it's tail. I feel pretty sure the others are all pindare but I'm unfamiliar with parnaibae and not sure how to tell the difference.

Man Geo's can be hard to ID. These guys really need to be imported with collection locations.

I could see it being G. winemilleri as well. Andy1985, Ed knows geos but it would be nice to get some more pics to confirm ID.
