Anyone noticed? our water is so messed up :(
my pH meter measures 9.7!!!!!
even worse is, for some reason, pH drops a whole level(compared to BEFORE the water change) after a day ...
so during water change, pH goes way up...then way down :(
i've lost couple fish due to uncontrollable pH fluctuation :(

any comments or suggestion or solution to this ????

R/O system is very inefficient when it comes to big tanks ... cuz i have couple tanks and in total i do almost 100gallon per water change... so the cartridge will run out easily... quite pricey and unenvironmental-friendly... i also heard they only filter 1/5 of the water ...so... ya... not so good... dunno...

This is what Discus legend Mr. Dick Au suggested at the CCA meet the other weekend to remedy large swings in PH, "...do smaller water changes, more often....remove all debris and detritus at each cleaning..."
Seems to be working very well for him.

one of my TA's for a Geography of Health class did her graduate studies in California on the water quality. She brought in some examples of some horrble tap water there, some even with arsenic! Im also reading this book called Blue Covenant, pretty interesting!

I'm here in San Carlos, I'm always testing the Ph but it rarely fluctuates much. Just checked all three tanks as I just did the water changes this past Sunday, all of them right at 8.0

Maybe your meter is off? Have you checked any of the local LFS to see if they are experiencing the same thing?

Been keeping fish over 20 yrs here in the Bay Area, never a problem and thankful that our water quality is excellent and the Ph is always close to 8.0
