Planning on a new tank, and main filtration will be a sump. Of course there are many different ways you can set them up and I am totally unsure of which route to take, like trickle tower ect. Need some ideas/ inspiration lol

Feel free to post some pics of your current sump setups

Thanks :)

I use a 55 for my 220. I have baffles to divide it into three chambers.

First chamber holds some sponge/filter floss and ceramic rings for bio. (I plan on doing away with the filter floss and replacing with several layers of poret foam)

Next chamber is the refugium area and also holds the heaters. I plan on putting red cherry shrimp in here.

Last chamber is the pump chamber.

I run a herbie style overflow for silence and turn over about 1600gph currently. My overflows consist of two 1.5" full siphon overflows (with each ball valve closed about half way) and a third dry 1.5" overflow as the e-drain.

With my new adjustable Jebao DCP pumps, keeping the siphon going is easy and the sump is completely quiet.

I also use and InkBird heater controller to control the two heaters. It's extremely easy to use, gets great reviews on SimplyDiscus (the 308, not the 306) and is about $35 on Amazon.

I pretty much used all vinyl tubing.

If you have questions about anything specific, let me know. I can definitely get pictures of anything in my setup you want a closer look at.

What size tank are you setting up and what size sump?

Here is the sump on my 300. It is a 55 with a foam block in the very first chamber where the water comes in, then K2 tumbling media, and the pump section. The pump feeds into a pond bead filter rated for 1,000 gallons (although I may pull this since the sump seems to be handling things so well on its own). The tank is a planted fancy goldfish community (live plants, fancy goldfish, scissortail rasboras, checkerboard barbs, platies, bristlenose pleco, Glofish tetras, rosy barbs, and Siamese algae eaters). It gets 90% water changes weekly.300 Sump.jpg

What are the Irwin clamps used for?

My sump is a 40 long on my 180. I also run a 40 breeder planted tank off of it as well. I use 3 filter socks for all 3 lines going in. Jebao DCT12000 pump, 2x 300 watt + 150 watt heater running off a Ranco controller. Media is two 2017-02-11 12.18.02.jpg 12x12x12 inch cubes built from light diffuser that have bio balls and bagged ceramic rings. Hole drilled in sump for drip system overflow. I run media submerged.

Nice setups, I've been thinking of doing a wet dry, but now I feel like changing to a k1 sorta sump
