This debate is never resolved to the satisfaction of either side in these threads. There is nothing wrong with a good debate over philosophies. I don’t care if you debate it as long as you want, as long as it doesn’t get personal or degrade to name calling or attacks on either side of the fence. There have been several remarks/comments made in this thread that could be infracted for. Let this post serve as a general warning to all individuals involved any further personal insults will not be tolerated.

Of course, each of us has interests in this hobby. Some jump on the bandwagon. Some chase anything that's new or unobtainable. Some enjoy fancy fish. Some enjoy wild-type fish. Some like little fish. Some like big ones. It's all good, just so that you properly care for them. Knock yourselves out.

But realize that there are reasons other than jealousy, envy, hate or conspiracy for choosing not to join your circle of rhythmic adulation.

And realize that few outside of this little bubble view the introduction of the Gorilla Umbee (or the M Umbee or whatever) with the significance that those inside do.

That's what I mean by "perspective"...

Matt

Puppy who likes to play lol...... First of all, Im drug free guy :) as far as thinking critical, well you can go ahead and stress yourself out over things you cant change... :) They way I see it, everything has its place in this hobby. Regardless of the size of the fish or tank size required. Anything new should be heard and seen because within that 99.999% there are people who are interested in hearing and seeing whats new in the hobby. True, not everyone can house a big Umbee for life but doesn't mean they shouldn't know more about them simply because one good article on them can sparks someones interest and that hobbyist may want to get a big tank and try an UMBEE, Dovii,P-Bass out!!! :) Anything new is a good direction for the hobby as it allows the hobby to grow meaning the Fish keeping Community... Regardless if its Pure or hybrid fish.... People should and will always keep what fascinates them. As far as focusing on other parts of the hobby, well let me put it to you this way... I focus on what interest me, theres so many cool fish to keep and my two car garage can only facilitate so much... So I keep and maintain whats the coolest Cichlid to me,, The UMBEE..... The water-gate scandal is in progress lol!!!!!!!

You know what Matt, I really don't care what you or the other people outside the bubble think of me.... In fact I have no plans on slowing down in this hobby and if your to ignorant to see or look beyond a name of the fish given by its collector then you are truly a thorn in the heel of this hobby...... A prick that will be plucked as the Hobby marches on..... UMBEE POWERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

I myself, would like to keep the black gorillus I have here in the Northwest, pure and will continue to do so.

That being said, Worldbelow, I might have to grab a male or female of your new blend, as a show fish, as a specimen that I can study and observe.

I know we are all passionate here, but at the end of the day - they are just fish.

For sure brother! :)

Then why the constant accusations of jealousy, conspiracy, envy...hatred...against anyone who doesn't rank your "discovery" of this fish as the most significant occurrence in the hobby (world?) since, uh, ever? Recriminations against anyone who dares question why it might be a bad idea to put mixed fish into the marketplace?

Not publishing an article about it in TFH must be a conspiracy against you personally. Anyone with any sense would rip the editorial calendar to shreds and publish an umbee story in each and every month's issue. Maybe fill the rest with dovii and festae articles, since those are the only fish in the hobby that matter, right?!

Call me a prick. I don't care. I live outside the bubble. The air is fresher out here.

Sorry guys but I still dont get the controversy about these gorrilus Umbee? Why do the well know hobbyist/scientist look down on them and you (UK)? Because the name? Jeff rapps from what I know is a VIP and is selling the Blues!
Dog, I personally love big Fat fish that have tons of personality that I just dont see in Bolivian Rams or other small cichlids IMO. I think tank size is a matter of perserverance, who wouldnt want a large tank even if it was to put alot of small fish, I have traded my bike for a 180g and considered not moving because I have a 300g that I can not bring to a new house! So for us that dont know please inform us why you and the others dont view the Gorrilus strain like us!??

Sorry guys this thread has run its course, everything that needs to be said has been said.
