Shark and ray pond build

I'm planning on building an indoor shark and ray pond. Planning for a couple brownbanded bamboo sharks and a california ray or two. I plan to use this stock tank https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...oam-stock-tanks-300-gal-capacity?cm_vc=-10005 it's about 300 gallons. Which I imagine less with livestock, sand and lower water level (aiming for 6inches from top rim).

I also was planning on using this sand filter or a similar one. https://www.poolsuppliessuperstore.com/harris-h1573040-vortex-sand-filter-tank-16-in If somebody has a recommendation on a better one or if this one is not safe for aquarium use please let me know. I'm very new to sand filters, so the more info the better.

I also have a UV sterilizer which I believe is this one https://aquaultraviolet.com/product/classic-uv-15-watt-series-units-2/ . Cleaning it up currently and needs a new bulb, not sure if it will work. Is a UV sterilizer a necessity?

It seems like you have a decent set up so far I would say a uv sterilizer will definitely help in the long run. And volume isn't the main issue with sharks the dimensions matter more. Is this an indoor or outdoor build?

It will be an indoor pond. The stock tank says its 59"x59"x27", Its pretty much round/oval.

Alot of the reviews on it talk about it developing a leak rather quickly. Sometimes while filling up sometimes a year or two. I'd also worry the dimensions aren't the same at the bottom step and could result in crowded and uncomfortable sharks and rays.

I hadn't seen those reviews. Good to know. I'll probably look into another stock tank or build a pond with liner

If you could build your own I'd say go for it. Probably with slightly larger dimensions to comfortably fit the stock you plan for.

I had 2 of these I have 1 now as a tree branch took 1 out. I used to have them set up in the house 1 housed 3 sharks and 2 rays the other was a mix of non-reef safe fish angels puffer and triggers. I also had 3 100g and 1 50g all part of the system sump and frag tanks. 1 of the 6 I had leaked at the bottom plug. Easy fix little Teflon tape or pipe dope good to go. If I remember the 300 is slightly smaller at the bottom then top but its not drastic. The 100s have a larger taper. The 50 has almost none. I just filled the 300 the other day to clean and check it for leaks. Its been crammed in a shed for about 8 years. Didnt have room for both thats how the one got broken. Im moving and the new house will have shall we say "less rules about my hobby". Lol. Plans keep having to be changed but the 300 will house my polys at least right away maybe permanently.

Okay that's good to hear. I could always get epdm liner and put it over this stock tank as extra precaution. Has anyone used this https://www.sharkandreef.com/shark-pond-pool-415-gallon-capacity-59-x-59-x-27-6/ it looks legit but I would probably do another liner over it for extra precaution haha

Does anyone have any info on that sand filter? Or info for a better one?
