Most "attacks" end with an alive human, not something an apex predator would just leave and finish off if it was tasty
Considering most people aren't eaten by sharks, I would think its mostly sharks mistaking us for their natural prey. The problem is with large sharks, the first bite is usually devastating. I guess the acception would be, once they start to frenzy. Such as when the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in WW2. If sharks were purposely targeting us, there would be a lot more attacks. We are pretty easy prey in the water
Exactly Empyreal!! Sharks do not have the brain power to "troll" humans. Just like most every other living organism sharks are just trying to eat with the goal of reproducing. When a shark bites a human and lets go it doesn't swim off laughing at its "joke." It goes swimming off in search of food that is better than a human.
The whole argument boils down to what you mean by accident. Did the shark mean to bite the human? Yes, otherwise it wouldn't have. Did the shark know that what it bit was a human? Probably not, it just saw it as food.

Even when that happened they would drop the bodies of the dead off the side of the raft so the sharks would leave them alone. I think it was like 10 people out of all of them were alive when they got bit, most of the frenzy was eating the dead sailors.
