Anyone ever buy one?

What was your experience?

Did it hatch?

Would it be easier on the animal to buy/ship/acclimate in this form rather than as a small shark?

I have been reading in and around here, and I am now considering doing one of these on my next wholesale order.

It's easier to deal with a hatched shark that is already eating.

The part that scares me though is the whole shipping/acclimation. This sounds like the most difficult part. Wouldnt buying an egg make that easier?

What do people have to say? Anyone ever do this?

Besides that with my wholesale fish prices I can get an egg for $20. Thats pretty hard to beat.

You still run the risk of the yolk breaking during the move, buying an egg that isn't fertile and acclimating an egg over to the new system.

There was a shark egg at the LFS and I was excited to come in and see it hatch, of course that was in like 3-4 months. But somebody came in and bought it. I'm always interested now, if they understood what they were buying and if they could adequately provide for it, providing it hatched, or if it was doomed to be turned into shark soup.

Wouldnt egg acclimation be easier than shark acclimation? There is exchange between the egg and its surroundings, but it is to some degree protected. Right?

I would rather spend $60 on eggs than $200 on a shark.

No one on here as ever tried this? I feel that I might have to, and then have photos and videos. I just hope I am there when it happens!

I have only heard of one other guy doing this. Son of friends of my parents. The friends told my parents (long time ago) that their son had recently hatched a shark in his aquarium (my parents brought up my fish keeping most likely.

So now just wondering...lots of open space in a concrete basement here for a ...larger fish. :D

I have hatched a banned before. It was quite neat. When I picked up the egg it just looked like a black blob in the case. After a month or so it started to take shape and you can see the shark inside with the yolk sack. I think it took about 3 months to hatch. One morning I woke up and the egg was empty. I let the shark be for about 5 days or so and then got it started on squid. It was doing pretty well until I went out to the MBA to see the great white and my wife sad it died 2 days before I got home. All in all hatching the shark was pretty easy and I believe that there is a little hole in the egg were water travels through.
