We don't think the rest of the world is barbarians. Most countries don't hold the same standards as each other, compare fish that are banned in the US that are legal in Canada.

The majority of fish that are banned in the states are banned in states with warm water all year round and could not live in Canada's cold waters.

This has been going on for decades now and unfortunately there isn't a great deal we can do. China is the biggest culprit and the the main driver for this industry.
On a personal level I boycott any restaurants that serve shark fin and advise my friends to do so as well. But its just a drop in the ocean unfortunately. ..
