shark looking.

I gree that an ID cat is a bad choice to save money with, the set up you need for a adult can easily cost you as much as a set up for a bamboo shark. I don't think there are many FW fish that look much like sharks except maybr the Cetopsis coecutiens catfish, and it ain't cheap.

Don't be so rude on me. Yes this site is for me because i want to learn how to best care for them. Like i said i try to take very good care of them. I do a partial water change every week and vacuum their gravel and everything.

the time frame is a bit off i got my id sharks last march and this spring i gonna have them since 12 months. But yeah the reason i got them was because i wanted a shark and since i could not get a real shark i wanted a shark looking fish. I know that this is a marketing ploy to boost sale. Yes also i am a huge jaws fan and i got the dvd. Not in HD though.

Please understand that i am a lonely person and animals are all i have left to keep me company and when i get really depressed then i fell that all i have as company is pet. During this time i get tired of keeping animals and just have that to keep me company. It depends on how i feel day by day.

I am sure none of us intended to be deliberately rude to you…I certainly apologise if that’s the impression you got.
The fact is we are all very passionate about the hobby. All too often people buy their way into the hobby because they want another piece of furniture in their room, and these sorts of people rarely have any regard for the fish.

So when you said you bought a ID shark because you wanted a shark…in addition you said you didn’t want to spend to much, people say what comes to mind.

What you need to understand is ID sharks get huge and are true monsters; hence they cost a lot of money. While like another member said, there is no substitute for a true saltwater shark. You will only grow more disappointed and dig deeper into your wallet.

ID sharks needs to be liked and respected for what they are… monster catfish…
People are only trying to save you from upset later down the line…

Yes i diddent mean to come across being rude. Sorry if i did.

You could very easially get a 200 gallon and keep some sort of a cat shark like Chiloscyllium punctatum or Chiloscyllium plagiosum which would very easially live in a 200 gallon for a long time and are true saltwater sharks. Just a suggestion. I have heard people keep cat sharks or coral cat sharks and have alot of fun with them.

I have a silver tipped shark and he looks like a shark and acts like one. I have seen him try to eat some of my other fish a lot. You can get them at 2" long and they grow to about 14-16 inches. They can also live in saltwater, so as you upgrade you can increase your salinity until you get to saltwater. Once you have been able to do all of that, you may be able to get a bamboo or a coral cat shark in a few years.

I wasn't trying to be rude at all but this was basically my point. ID sharks get big, means big tank to keep this fish. Rather than get something that looks like a shark, and a huge tank you might as well buy and set up for what you really want. Unless of course you don't know how big ID's get or how big of a tank they need or aren't planning on upgrading. Then maybe the ID is a fish that looks like a shark for 1/4 the cost.

sorry dude. yes, some of us do get offended and offensive about the hobby.
i personally cannot stand anyone who treats their fish (or any other animal for that matter) as just something they can use and abuse at their own expense.

Radley makes a nice point about the columbian/silvertip shark.
I was not trying to rag on you, it is just that for the money you will need to keep an adult id cat you can actually get something you will be happier with.
