Here is the deal I adore sharks and want one. However, I have a ton of switching around going on. I will explain what I am doing and if you have a suggestion of a type of shark that I can house in my current plans let me know what kind and what tank.

I do not need anymore fish until I get my 75gl. (a month or two already buying stuff for it) When I get my 75gl this is going to be the stocking list of each, I currently already have all these fish. The tetra are all full grown now. Its getting to a point the serpae can fit in my white pims mouths lol

55gl
4 spotted pictus (3-4") I dont expect much more growth from them
8 serpae tetra
1 glass tetra
7 white skirt tetra
3 bleeding heart tetra
1 apple snail

75gl
2 white pim - 5" and growing had them for 7mo went from little babies to 5" in a hurry, they have slowed down but are still growing
5 clown loaches - 2" they are babies yet
1 common pleco that is about 4" or so right now.

Since the clown loaches grow so slow I plan to wait about a year or two before I get a 125gl or maybe a little bigger tank that will house the clown loaches and the pleco. I figure the pleco will push me to the larger tank before the clowns do. lol

Is there a shark that could either

1) stay in a 55gl tank for good
2) stay in the 75gl with the above stock list

I dont really want to get a shark that will need to go in my 125gl. I think the clown loaches and pleco will be a big enough strain on the bioload dont ya think? I know the pleco is going to make a mess himself but clown loaches I know get pretty big, but very slow growth rate.

If you think a shark would be ok with them in the 125+gl, suggestions open there too.

I can always change my stocking plans as well. Example the spotted pictus could go in the 75gl and move out of the 55gl. They get along great with the white pims and pleco.

yeah it would be freshwater.

I love looking at SW setups and fish. I just dont have the drive to do it myself though.

I could be interested in doing brackish though if needed for the shark eventually. If that is the case it would have to be one that could stay in the 55gl, the 75gl and the 125gl+ would have to stay FW for sure for my current critters.

Bala sharks could stay in the 75 gallon tank. I have 4 in a 75 now,and they are almost 8 inches long. the Irredescent shark would have to reside in the 180. My friend is looking for a larger tank for his Irredescent. He is 12 inches long and the 55gallon he is in is only 13 inches deep.

I know there is no "true freshwater" shark. I do like the red fin sharks, they get to 6" I would like something a little more bigger but not a tank buster. My pleco holds that spot in this house LOL

I want something colorful, interesting and fun.

I love columbian sharks! They have such high demands from what I have read as far as needing to go brackish and then marine :( Sounds complicated.

redtailshark-6"
rainbow shark-6"
bala shark-14-16"
Apollo shark-10"
Black shark-1'
Denison barb/roseline shark-6"

the problem with "sharks" is, these are just common names and none of them are hardly related, each with very diverse behavior, care, and size.

so to recomend a "shark" is quite inappropriate. rather, I think you're looking for a community "bottom dwelling" fish that's easy to care for and doesn't get too big.

I have 3 Bala Sharks and I really enjoy them. they keep the tank active because they are always playing. They school so you need more then 1 but I have found they are not picky eaters and are peaceful fish. They also can get pretty big so you might look into them.

Freshwater "sharks" can be any of a number of species. Some are catfishes, some are cyprinids etc. The only think they have in common is that they look like sharks but they are not related to eatchother in most cases, let alone true sharks. From species others have suggested I recommend the red tail or rainbow shark.
