can anyone tell me what kind of filtration i would need for a 600 gallon pool with a single bamboo, could i function with a 60 gallon refugium, dsb and large octopus skimmer?

Largely depends on your turnover - you're going to want at least 1800 gph, preferably closer to 3000 gph. A good UV sterilizer is a real plus - they work great.

60 gallons seems way to small in my opinion, if it's a money issue than a rubbermaid or like is a inexpensive way to go. I think you can get a 150 gallon one for 120.00 or craigslist. A refugium is'nt really needed either

what style sump is needed in this kind of scenario with a 2500 gph turnover

Personally, I'd skip the sump all together. Have your filter pumps pull right off the tank and return to it. Then you don't need to worry about low sump levels and sucking air.

I would just pick up a small 3/4 hp pump and 50lbs sand filter combo pack form the pool store and pump right from the pool and return it though some type of degassing tower.

so really they don't need much in the filtration department then. ive heard their messy so wouldn't the skimmer be in order?

A big skimmer is always a good idea but you don't need one to start. You can also control how messy they are by target feeding the shark bite size chunks of food it doesn't have to rip apart.
