  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I personally think that would work. Others may disagree.

So we've established that the tanks above are poorly designed.

IMHO - a 6x12x3 with rounded edges (which works out to just under 1700 gallons) would be fine for smooth hounds. If you're serious about building one you should read up on some of the other threads here in regards to filtration and water flow. Would be a monster tank!
are you refering to my tank with your above post?

It was a reference to this comment before it:

Both of those tanks are poorly designed for swimming shark - be they smoothhounds or ORVs.

And I personally I think 1,700-2,400 gallons is too small for an adult smoothhound - for their normal life span.

As for ORVs, like BTR or bonnetheads - I would go with something at least 3 times that volume for juveniles. As for what they need as adults - check out the Recommended Tank Size Sticky.

I only read the first post, as I've seen that tank build before; I didn't read your post (as I imagine you didn't read the one above since it says the same thing mine does) nor have I seen your tank.

12x8 wouldn't be a nice grow out for a young smoothound.

I'm actually surprised at that... I know we have an excellent tank sizing sticky, but I'd be curious as to why you think that.

Because at best a 12ft x 8 ft pond/tank would only be good for a Smoothhound until it reachs about 24-27 inches in length. And even then it would be considered a bare minimum tank for a smoothhound of that size.
