Shark tank on Nat Geo last night

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was thinking the insert was to big to for the bigger sharks. Beautiful but takes up to much room. But as a business owner myself you sometimes cant get the good ideas into a customers had. They want what they want and their is no telling them different. lol

Yea i know what you mean, but the owner really tied his hands here on what kind of sharks they can put in there because of how large that insert is lol

Did their shark guy tell them there is no such thing as a "Banded Cat Shark"? (Sorry, its a pet peeve of mine.)

Wasn't there for filming that section, but you know something was said. Haha

Yea i think they still put too big of an insert in that tank if they want to keep bigger sharks in that tank

The insert was made with bamboos, cats and white tip reefs in mind. It's a PERFECT tank for those species. The foot print limits it to those species more than the insert.

"And ur gonna try and put that behind acrylic!?" Well done Matt, i got some good laughs as u nicely steered the team away from all the sharks that were caught on rod n reel. Very profesional. Was happy to see the bamboos chosen at the end even tho the guy just had to say "banded cat sharks" lol...

It was definatly good seeing that for once the sharks were appropriate for the tank and not just thrown in because they are pretty. About time..Good job Matt...My hats off to you.

Thanks guys. Hopefully as the season progresses, we'll see a lot of educated choices being made (and included in the final cut).

How are the sharks doing in with that Clown trigger? no nipping going on?

In a large system like this, the triggers aren't usually a threat. There are plenty of hiding spots for sharks, and so much activity that the trigger has more to do than pick at eyes.

Interesting setup. Would have been more impressive if it was bigger. The shark fishing was just for show.

Bigger is always better, but this is the largest private aquarium in the entire state.

The shark fishing/scouting was actually part of the real aspect for this project. The owner orginally had asked for all native fish and sharks to show case South FL animals. With the foot print, none of the native sharks were suitable for the display. That is why I got involved with this one - they approached me to find out what sharks would work from FL waters. I said none. My explanation lead into explaining it on the show as part of the move to increase the educational/factual aspect of the shows. I believe the original quote was something alone the lines of "The client specifically asked for Atlantic sharks." To which I responded "I'll show you specifically why you want PACIFIC sharks."
