Shark tank size questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

It has some good info and pics, but is has a lot of misguided info as well - and it has lead to the purchase of sharks by people who aren't equipped to provide a healthy life for them. Mostly it lies in the tank size requirements by species. After keeping many of the species discussed in the book, I would never suggest using it as a guideline for shark husbandry.

The best printed source for actual shark husbandry is the Elasmobranch Husbandry Manual. Real world info from real experts compiled of decades of 1st hand experience.

wetwebmedia is a good one.

I was just seeing that while reading some of the info.

Not all of it is misguided.... but it seems like the biggest issue with private shark keeping comes down to the most dreaded question in all of fish keeping:

"What is the smallest tank I can have a ________ in?"

Angels do not go well with sharks, better tank mates are tangs, groupers, eels. Go to reef central or better yet there is a good book on sharks for the home aquarium. Some of the cool sharks you can keep that stay small need colder water also.
