So here's another question - What sharks "aquarium friendly" species would you like to see available - that are usually aren't found in LFS or Online Dealers.

Here's a few examples -

The Freycinet's Epaulette(H. freycineti) - grows to about 2.5 ft.

The Ward's or Northern Wobbegong(O. wardi) - grows to about 2.5'-3'

The Mexican Horn(H. mexicanus) - grows to about 2.3'

Don't know - davo.

I've never seen any.

But best guess - off hand would be similar to other members of the families.

But then the whole point of this topic is what sharks, we would like to see available for shark hobbists.

Although they cost a ton, I one day dream ok keeping wobegon sharks in a tank at home.
Hey, I can dream can't I?

Well - it would depend on what species of Wobbie.

I've found Japanese Wobbies on some Online Dealers price lists - they general run about $ 300-400 a piece. And are only small species of wobbie that I've seen available in the States.

And japanese wobbies - general grow to about 4 ft in length.

But it's the Ward's or Northern Wobbie that is the best wobbie for home aquariums. The problem is Ward's are almost unheard in the U.S. market. To get one to the U.S. - you would like have to find an importer - and pay a hefty some of money to import one.

I heard of one shark hobbist that specializes in Bullhead(Horn) sharks - that paid $10,000 to import a pair of Zebra Bullheads.

Here's more sharks that should be available.

- Hooded Epaulette (H. strahani) - grows to 2.6' long - basically unknown in U.S.

- Arabian Bamboo (C. arabicum) - grows to 2.5' long - fairly rarely seen in the U.S aquaculture.
- Hallstrom's Epaulette (H. hallstromi) - grows to 2.6' long - unknown in U.S.

- Bluegray Carpet Shark (B. colcloughi) - grows to 2.6' long - rare in U.S. aquaculture.

- Japanese Bullhead (H. japonicus) - grows to 3.9' long - very rare in U.S. Aquaculture.

well, that understandable. All are cool sharks in their own ways.

Unfortunately your likely to have them imported.

I've heard of the Zebra Bullhead - being imported. There is a guy on another forum that actually had a pair imported(he's going to attempt to breed them when they get old enough) - he said that they are very expensive(over $2,000 each). But the Zebra has been called the most beautiful of all Horns. And also one of the least hardy.

The Galapagos Horn - hasn't been imported yet. The Guy that has the zebras - also wants them, can't find them. The Galapagos are one of the cutest species of horns - and never grow more than 2' in length(perfect size for home aquariums).

I know there are overseas online dealers that carry(or can get) the Freycinet's Epaulette - But I've heard of it actually rarely being sold in the U.S. as the epaulette, by less informed dealers. So you'll need to do a lot of searching & emailing, but you may be able to find them.

The Chain Dogfish (Chain Catshark) is also rarely seen in the U.S. LFSs - due to them being a cool water species. Also I believe they are native to the waters off the New England states.

When i was a younger hobbiest i saw freycinets eps in a store in detroit. They looked amazing. However at that time i didnt know what they were and had no place to put them. i kick myself in the ass to this day! As for chaindogfish, i have never seen them in a LFS. Last time i checked Shedd had a group. If you or anyone you know has seen them LET ME KNOW! i want to start a captive propigation with them.

Has anyone ever seen chaindogfish (chain catshark) while diving. If so where? I would like to check it out. I have heard that fishermen catch them occasionally when trolling along the east coast.
