Shell Dweller "Nano" Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know - having a hard time parting with the true biotope aspect of this tank. I really want these shells in part because they are so hard to find.
I still have to look at my livestock options so I have time to change my mind.

Shellies have a HUGE personality for such a small fish... My Brevis got pissed off when I moved shells around... They got pissed of to the point to actually trying to bite me... They weren't breeding or anything... Definitely a great fish... Good Luck!

You should definitely look into getting Synodontis Lucipinnis... Tiny little catfish same size as a shell dweller... Have just as much personality as them too!

That is funny
I can't wait

I got a few shelly's...and there in my 40 gal that i got off craigslist for 40 bucks haha cant beat that, you should check it out...craigslist and my aquarium haha

for shells go to micheals or some other craft store and buy the assorted sea shells they are the best bang for your buck lots of turbo snails in there i breed lots of shellies and could ship you some if i have the ones you want....

I will put pics up soon. I just picked up a true pair of zebra striped Brevis. They found the only Whale's Eye shell in there amongst 30 other shells, haha.

I agree on less substrate, they seem to be happier after I took out over half of the Aragonite shown in the pic below. I love this Nano and wish I had the patience for many more. One thing though, with Nano's you have to be very careful as a minute change will be drastic in such small quarters. I do weekly 20% changes. Anymore than 20% in that small of a setup can change param's pretty drastically. I also waaaaaaay over filter with an AC50. I have always been drawn to Nano's becasue everyone can create a true biotope for not alot of cash.

Check the OP for updated pics.

BTW - nice tank :naughty:

Can't edit the OP, so here it is from start to finish:

Very beginning

Cleared up and cycling

Still cycling, but at night, lol

FINALLY, here is the male zebra brevis hangin out by the cave

Here he is again (his girlfriend is hiding)

Again

I just love the cave

She is still hiding in the Whales eye, camera shy

I still want to hide the heater better, or just get a small titanium one soon, and black background needs to go up. I am still looking for Neo shells, then the tank will be complete.
