Shiming the fish tank so its level.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its a glass 220. I am shimming the stand, it on carpet so shimming with the tank on the stand is doable. But it is about 450 pounds plus. I moved the 250 pound stand in place myself but I cannot move the tank myself...

Hello; You may want to read a current thread about help with hardwood floors. The thread is about a tank leaking onto a floor. There are several posts from members describing problems with tank leaks. My own experience with a 55 gallon tank leaking on a carpeted floor led me to no longer place tanks on carpet. Even if there are no major leaks, there will be spills and the carpet and pad will hold the mositure and has ruined floors. The area under a carpet around a stand gets wet and tends to stay wet for a long time. If you have a choice, perhaps removing the carpet or putting the tank somewhere else?

Good luck

Currently this is the only place I can put the fish tank... But I don't think it will matter too much because my carpet is really really thin. Its only about 2 mm! Thanks so much for your help though. There was a high spot on the right of the concrete so it really sucked... I shoved a shim in anywhere it would fit to achieve it being level.

I have about 16 inch thick concrete on the bottom so I think it can support this beast. Sorry the tank and the area is so messy, I have been slacking on cleaning haha. Tomorrow i'll install some more shims in between the current shims and fill her about half way and see if I need to adjust it anymore and wait a day or two and check again.
