SHINERS INSTEAD OF GOLD FISH FEEDERS

I was wondering if anyone else had fed there Peacock Bass, bait shop Shiners, there used for trout and bass fishing, they seam to be a lot cheaper than petshop gold fish feeders...................

They can be purchased in bulk from your local bait shop, and my dad always called them Shiners and said they can grow up to 12", if they kept from becoming a meal, thanks for your replys.....................

Shiners are very difficult to keep. They need cool water and lots of oxygen. And the disease factor is still a concern

Actually golden shiners can handle both cold and hot water. Their natural range is from Southern Canada to Florida. We have them hear in my families old ranch pond and temperature hear in this area of Central California can reach over 110 F and even though the pond is a black water pond (Like the Rio Negro in Brazil) the water temperature can climb well over 85 F. Other than quarintining the shiners for parisites and other nasties their great food for peackok bass as the shiners let peackoks exhibit more natural chase hunting behaviors.

i cast net shinners every week and keep em in a 55g and buy minnows from a feed store and feed em to my bass and never had a problem with no qt

Shiners are alot more than goldfish where im at so its not worth feeding shiners.

I haven't had much luck. Perhaps I'm not letting them acclimate enough.

i keep shiners... kinda like keeping native fish.. i usually dump a bucket of ice into the water about 15 minutes before i dump the shiners into the tank.. works like a charm and there ALOT cheaper and healthier
