I have 2 largemouth bass and I buy a half pound of shiners (usually 80-100) from a local shop for 7 dollars. I tend to lose about 4 shiners a day and I don't know why.The water is clear, the filter is new and thee is sufficient flow and areation I assume. I feed them tropical fish food and my apartment stays right at 65-70 degrees. Any ideas why the die?
Baitstore shiners are already extremely stressed by the time they get to the baitshop, and then are left in overcrowded, underfiltered conditions with no food until you buy them and take them home. The surprise is that so many survive.
That's true. Another thin to consider is 100 shiners in a 10 gallon tank. It is overcrowded I know but they go pretty fast. How many fatheads could I put in a ten gallon?
