Hi Everyone. I'm totally new to this forum. I am in a panic. I decided to have 3 juvie calico BN plecos shipped to me (big mistake). They have been sent priority mail on 10/22/11. As of today they have not been delivered. I feel pretty certain they will be dead when they do eventually arrive. Everything I've read is that the pack is only good for 72 hours and we're past that now. My question is, has anyone ever had fish shipped and did they arrive alive after 72 hours?

:(

When I had some of mine shipped they were shipped next day air and arrived first thing the next day.I would call the place you ordered them from to give them a heads up about whats going on and to see if they know anything about where your fish are. Where did you order them from if you don't mind me asking.

I ordered them from a private party on another forum site. I've already emailed him a couple of times so he is aware of the problem. There really isn't anything he or I can do. Have you ever tried to contact USPS. Everything is automated and there is no speaking with a "human". Anyway, I just looked at their Track and Confirm for what seems like the 100th time and it finally shows that they left Reno at about 4am this morning. I live about 35 miles from Reno, so with any luck they will come today and I have already accepted that they may well be dead. That just breaks my heart.

I would be seriously concerned. Get the tracking number and trace it back. Possibly the person you bought it from delayed the actual shipping date of 10-22-2011. He may have actually just put it in the mail overnight yesterday, and you will get excellent condition fish today.

If he did indeed truly shipped the fish out on 10-22-2011 your chances of live rival are very slim.

You will need to find out the USPS service that the shipper provided. With the knowledge of the service and the tracking number, You can hold the USPS responsible and "refuse" the week late package. If it is insured than the shipper can get his/ her money back from them. If uninsured you both are screwed, but can still get a legal measure of revenge on them.

Even if they leave it at the door unsigned for, make them come back to pick up the stinky dead fish. Make sure that you reseal it and get the "stench" all over the outside package so the USPS driver either has to suffer with it all day or discard it "legally" his or herself. Again, if it is insured and "obviously well past the service level agreement". Call them and DO NOT allow that package to be delivered to you home!

If the fish are packed properly they can still be alive, a stretch but possible. While 4 days is a stretch in a single breather bag or a plastic bag purged with O2 fish can last 5-7 days as long as the temps are OK. I have had plecos survive 4 days of priority mail.
