Hello i'm going to ship an arowana to my cousin in a few days and i was wondering, if i dont have any oxygen to put in the bag like at the lfs, how would i get oxygen in the bag? i was thinking maybe i could use compressed air? (like the kind you clean computer keyboard) but i wasnt sure cause im not sure if there is any toxin in the compressed air

Hello; Compressed air will likely only be room air in a can under pressure. If so it will have only the oxygen found in air. You could achieve the same results with air from an air pump that runs a bubbler. There could be a propellant in a can of compressed air that may or may not be harmless to fish. On another thread a member mentioned moving fish in what was termed "breather bags", during a trip that lasted a week. I have not used the breather bags, but perhaps a search will yield some info. Perhaps a local fish shop will be willing to put some oxygen into the bags. I have bottled oxygen for a cutting torch, maybe that would work as well??

Some helpful hints: Stop feeding the fish a few days before shipping to clean out it's system. This will help keep the water in the bag cleaner during shipping. Fill the bag 1/3 water, 2/3 air. Try to use clean water if possible. If you don't have access to oxygen you may try using Bag Buddies - http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...GLE-LABORATORIES-BAG-BUDDIES-400TAB-6.96-each. Depending on the size of the fish, you may want to use a breathable bag - http://wako.aka.org/BREATHABLE BAGS.htm .

Good recs Joe Jaskot. Also, the bottled O2 used in welding is really all that's available to the average hobbyist and fish store. Medical grade O2 requires a Doctors prescription to obtain it.

ok ill be shipping an 6'' arowana, thanks guys ill try to get my hands on some bottled O2 hopefully its not too expensive

Hello; Good luck. You may want to stop by an auto or welding shop, a home health store. thes places carry bottled O2 and may put some in your bags for cheap. Buying the stuff in tanks can be a bit costly, largely the cost of the tank. I have seen some small gas tanks for light duty torches in stores. Do you know someone on supplimental O2 that may have the small O2 tanks ??

Most welding supply outlets don't charge you for the bottle. If you come in without one, they'll charge a refundable deposit for the bottle and regulator. Small tank refills are only about $8.

Don't look for medical tanks. You can't get them refilled without a doctors prescription.
