Shipping supplies for live fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've already started. And the kinds of Betta's I'm going to be breeding here VERY soon will be twice as much per fish than it is to ship. The parents are selling on average for 70-100 dollars a fish. I'm not going to bother with O2. I talked to several of the shippers and none of them say they use O2 with Betta's. There's no word of mouth when it comes to selling fish. It's called aquabid. if you have quality fish they sell. If you don't then they don't. And it's generally 24 hours. MOST shippers use a 24 hour quarantine before shipping and when you use a heat pack you place the heat pack on the bottom (heat rises) and place packing peanuts or shredded paper between that and the heat pack. It's not a business btw it's a hobby. Not looking to make loads of money just looking to make enough to cover the costs of running my tanks.

Yep they made it. As long as they stay moist they'll eb fine. They ship them into the country on wet cotton balls to cut down on weight which is why overseas shipping is always so low (usually 5 bucks a fish). It's when they ship here that people put them in baggies of water.

As far as supplies I have had good luck ordering from Jehmco.com

I've also tried Jehmco.com too with success. I've also ordered from Kensfish.com and 4fishstuff.com.

Those were all helpful except the Jehmco one... I coudlnt' find te shipping products in that one. The others were extremely helpful guys. Okay I would like to hear from all you shippers ow you do it. I dont' want to make the fish pay for my beginner mistakes. OH and where could I find any foam things for insulation?

Has anyone had success with shipment using breather bags? I am planning on sending some goldfish on Monday using USPS flat rate service. My understanding is fish will last up to a week in these bags without incident. Also, according to the USPS website, they will only ship fish packages that have been packaged with a waterproof sealant. I'm guessing an extra thick garbage bag should do the trick - but wouldn't this block oxygen from permeating into the breather bag, which defeats the purpose of said bags? Has anyone shipped in the past under current conditions with success - what did you do to satisfy USPS' shipping of live fish criteria. Thanks in advance.
