is there anyone here who would be willing to walk me through shipping some fish?

They have some stickies on this. But I have received some fish through the mail and this is what I know. You need styrofoam box for cushion, breather bags, heat pack (if necessary), newspaper for more cushion etc.

Also, its wise to purge the fish for a few days so that it doesnt poop alot during transit. I know some people add some kind of oxygen tabs or some kinda tranqualizer to the water. I have received some fish with blue water, sometimes I havent.

ya ive reAD the stickys but i just cant put it all together in my head
i think those are called bag buddies which causes the blue water

Picture this:

A box with styrofoam on the sides for cushion or a styro box that will fit snug in a box. And then you add some newpaper to fill up some of the box to make the bag kinda snug (not too snug). Then just wrap a heat pad with some newspaper and lay it on top of the bag. This is how I have seen some people package fish. I also know they dont use alot of water, there is more oxygen in the bag.

Here is a package I received today that someone sent a cichlid fry to me. The heat pad is on the left and was wrapped in newspaper, and the baggy with additional wrap is on the left. The person didnt use any styrofoam but there was alot of stuffing and newspaper in it.

www.kensfish.com has alot of the shipping items you will need, such as bags, heat pads and much more.
ick i was hoping to not have to order online :irked:
thank you for the link though :D

The baggy doesnt have to be tight with alot of oxygen in it (like you get in an LFS). The bags of fish I have received were a bit loose. Basically just grab the top and bring your hand down and try to trap some oxygen in the bag. Also with heat pads, theres different hours they last, like 24 hours, 40 hours etc.

24 hours is ideal for overnight, more hours if its sent like priority.
