I want to buy some fish but the overnight expenses for shipping is crazy... twice the amount spent on fish, generally i wouldnt worry about cost of shipping but i just had a few unexpected expenses and am low on fish budget.. How many ppl has had success with 2 day shipping? I dont want any DOA'S so im reaching out to MFKeerrrsss to see what the success rate of 2 day shipping is before i go that route....

i've had plenty, all depends on what your getting. small stuff i tend to get priority mail, bigger more expensive stuff i pay for overnight or if i know the shipper like jeff and ken, i will do 2 day also because they are excellent shippers. For your large stuff around 6" or bigger, i pretty much do overnight just because they are bigger.

Personally I wouldn't do 2 day right now, only because of the hot weather we are having (it's 85 degrees in the UP of MI right now!) 2 day is something I use when the temps are in the mid 60's to 70's. My thinking is a chilled fish can usally be saved, but cooked is cooked!

That being said, it also depends on the shipper. I did 2 day with Rapps and all was fine. Ask the seller if they use chill packs and if they ship in some sort of insulation.

i actually had a 2 day (ground shipping) about a week ago when the temps were pretty high, and the pleco arrived nice and safe. The whole temp thing does affect them some, but i believe it comes down to carrier. I had an overnight package from ohio through ups, and it melted the styro box, where i had 2 day with fed ex and didn't have a problem. i believe ups's biggest problem is their big brown trucks, where fedex are those cargo vans.
Depending on their location, usps express is overnight and it pretty much cost the same as 2 day through fed ex and ups

What are you trying to get, size and location?

I agree.I worry every time I have fish delivered and next day is the only way I go.I want the fish to get here as soon as possible and the more time they spend with a carrier the better chances for problems to arise..I remember the first time I had fish shipped and was shocked at the fees but if you really want it and can afford it,you have to get past the fee and look at it as the total cost of the fish.

Goto your LFS and have them order it for you. You might have to pay MORE for the fish, but (at least at my store) I'm not liable for buying it. If I don't like it, I can walk away.

Though, there are some LFS where they make you pay up front, but don't charge for shipping. (Since they get your item from one of their fish distributors; I have done this before).

I'd only buy fish online is it were something I really want or something that was hard to find......

There is a store near me that has a special order/request book for customers to write down what they want in.I have tried it a few times but they have never been able to find what I wanted.:irked:

I think that is how most online customers see it.

When buying through a reputable dealer do you normally purchase extra out of fear of losing any and just rehome extras down the road?
Is it better to just suck it up buy what you want and pay for shipping again if something goes wrong?

Have ordered Angelfish online previously and had no issues, but buying extra was not a big deal. Now I am down to wanting a few specific fish and rehoming probably won't be an issue since they are rare. I just hate rehoming my wet pets. :nilly:
