shoaling fish with discus

I recommend bloodfin tetras. They shoal together and are slightly bigger than rummynose tetra so you wont have to worry about them becoming a snack. They also will shoal with rummynose occassionally which is cool to see the two different fish in one group. I have a 55 gallon tank with angelfish, rummy nose and blood fin tetra and they all coexist really well.

I have 6 well fed juvenile discus (fed over 6x per day) only 2.5 inches big and I just added 15 full grown neons in the tank and the discus are chasing them all over the tank trying to eat them. I see other discus tanks with 4-6 inch discus swimming together with cardinals smaller than the neons I bought. There's more action in my supposedly mellow discus tank than my tank with severums, ebjd and geos! While I was floating them in a bag from my quarantine tank the discus didn't go up to the bag or pay any attention to them. Once they were out of the bag all hell broke loose. Turned off the lights hoping things would calm down.

Next morning I didn't see the neons but as the lights came up they came out of hiding and the discus seemed to have given up chasing them. The discus presence keeps the neons schooled up tightly which is nice plus of all the havoc!
