:( I have a serious question,if a aquarium light fell in the water while your doing a water change will u get shocked. It may sound stupid but i dont kno if it goes for all light bulbs or not.I was doing a water change and the light felll in the water but the bulb dident get wet because the canopy was underneath it so i quickly got it out as a immediate reaction.:( ....I dont kno if i was close to death or not.

you can get shocked, but there is a ton of variables that come into play. To be safe, install GFCI plugs in your house, make sure your house is properly grounded, and dont let your light fall in the water.

When I was moving my fish out of my parents' tank to be transported to my place, one of the oscars thrashed so hard he hit the hood, knocking the plugged in light into the water. Turns out the whole thing was burned out anyway, but it scared the s$%t out of me.

If i understand right, your light fell in and you reach in to get it out? safer to unplug it first, and not plug it up till it's completely dry. GFCI plugs are a good ideal anywhere around wet conditions.

A GFCI outlet will offer great protection and they also sell grounding rods that are made to go inside the fishtanks.

I don't think it is like dropping a toaster in the bathtub, but you could get a real bad shock from it till the breaker kicks......

Yea I have had lights fall into the tank numerous times and I just grab them by the cord. The dry part of the cord. I think it is funny how durable they are though. I have had them fall in the tank and still be working and shining light in my face while in the water.

I imagine it could be a recipe for damage.
However you do not hear stories about it being critical or a risk.
As others have said, if it happens, just turn off the light by the mains..

I've been shocked numerous times at work from lights. They are just not suspended high enough on some tanks. It stings, but it isn't even enough to trip the GFCI, or breakers.
