Shold i upgrade my 180 to a 220

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depending on the tank 180/240 have the same foot print 6' x 2' so you are only gaining height with 220 0r 240. Think about the work involved in breaking down and pretty much starting over. I'n my opinion it's not worth it.

You say you want to trade tanks plus cash? Not that many people are looking to down size from 220/240 to just 180. People who sell large tanks either go up in size or they are moving to a place where they can't fit the big tank. I got my used 240 for $500 so If I was you I would buy the larger tank then sell my smaller one (or sell yours first).

Well the 220 would look better and you could get better water parameters(assuming nothing else changes). Whether it is worth the time and money is totally up to you. Stocking wise you will not be able to add any more fish because of this volume. Aquascaping wise you will have much more to work with. Personally if it was the only tank I had and the biggest footprint I had room for, I would do the upgrade.

It might be better to up grade to a 300 gallon tank in that there was this really cool local saltwater fish store I visted and they had this side room which was like a fish tank show room and they had all bran new 150 gallon tanks and 220's gallon tanks and a 265 gallon tank and three 300 gallon tanks lined up next to one another in this show room and the costs of the new 300 gallon tank was almost near the costs of the 220 gallon tank. And the demensions of the 300 where a foot wider then the 220 and two to three feet longer then the 220 gallon tank. There are a fair number of 300 gallon tanks on ebay and on the classfieds.

biggest footprint i could get is 6x2x? LxWxH
