I have a short body FH..4 inches..he sits in a corner next to the filter...in the beginning when he was bought he used to play around normally and even used to eat when fed from the hand..then we had to leave him alone for 4 days as I had to go out of town...after that he behaves like this..I had another FH just before we left him alone..since i gave that to my frnd the short body is alone..I thought loneliness was the problem so I brought in two kissing gourami's and kept it in a partition but not much difference in the short body FH's behaviuor

Pls suggest what could be done...li'l urgent.

Is the fish still eating ?

If so, it does sound like somehow you have triggered this behaviour by removing the other fish and/or leaving the fish alone for 4 days. Probably it's lost it's confidence having lost it's tankmate. It should pick up in time. Try and spend reasonable amounts of time near the tank. Treat the fish with nice foods. Build it's confidence up again. Just be patient and I think you will find the fish will be OK again.
DO you have plenty of cover in the tank. Fish which are nervous for whatever reason do so much better in tanks where there are plenty of hidey holes.

....his tank is all empty..with no sand ..nothing at all.

I'd be depressed in a tank like that. I'll bet if you put in some things for him to explore, to go in and out of, and hide in (when he wants), then he would really appreciate it. ODn't have to be from a LFS. FLowerpots, plates, bowls etc, etc are all fine. Just make sure that things like that are clean and of a material that will not leach out any chemicals into the water .... all glass and ceramics are fine, as are all food-grade plastics.
Previously, all he had was his companion for interest. Now he has nothing.

^^what he said add some stuff i feel like flowerhorns love flower pots

Did you check the water parameters?

^ Agree. Hes not bummed from the lack of decorations or being left alone for 4 days.

Post your tank size, water parameters, filtration, and water change schedule and we can go from there. Without that, Your fish is probably just going to die. Because he could be swimming in a vat of nitrates and ammonia for all we know.

Checking water parameters is defo worth doing. May or may not be a factor.

I suspect that as you have reduced the bioload on the tank and gone away for a few days (and therefore I guess not fed the fish) that your filtration is probably not being stressed. In fact, possibly the opposite.

Although .... did you give a massive feed before going away by any chance ??

However, do the tests .... ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Take a sample to your LFS if you do not have the tests. They will test for you.

In fact it's probably worth doing a 40-50% water change anyway. If toxic ammonia cycle products are an issue, it will dilute them very usefully. Remember to use de-chlorinator !!!!!
A good motto is always .... "if in doubt, do a WC".

honestly.. give it time. Had the same issue.. took a few weeks... almost 2 months rly.. but now that its bigger he swims around freely and greets me at the top. one thing i did that helped was putting a mirrror on the side for a half out every other day
