Short body FH is dull

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The fish actually seems to be resting on the bottom, which concerns me, as this is not normal behaviour. It usually indicates a gut problem of some sort.
I still am sure that the fish would definately appreciate some extra cover. He is hanging around and behind the filter as it is the only cover available in the whole tank.
As for infections and treatment, if I was certain that my water quality was good, I would consider treating the fish for internal parasites/worms. personally, I would use flubendazole, but I don't know whats available to you in India.

I wonder if the stress of losing his tankmate and being left alone for a few days etc, supressed his immune system, leaving him open to a gut infection/infestation of some sort.

As I said he eats and plays also sometimes but never falls short to return to the filter quickly, I'll maybe check with a flowerpot. Yesterday he even had a piece of Humpy head from my hand ..hesitantly though. What do you think of the color and size..do they indicate anything?

Not quite sure what you are asking here. The colour and size of what ?

Do the coloration and size of the fish indicate some internal parasite or does it look healthy? I mean is this normal color and size for a 4 month SB FH?

His colour looks great. As for his shape, short bodied FH's are naturally quite fat and dumpy so it's hard to assess from just a snapshot in time. A change is what you need to look for .... so, is he looking bloated at all compared to before all this started ?

I have seen this behavour so many times with new fish. I just rescued a small blood parrot from a LFS and all the day doesnt moves and its next to the filter.

But I saw when fish doesnt know Im watching (mostly by night), they swim normal and explore the tank looking for food. Thats how I know its just a matter of time and not a health issue.

Right now its in the middle of the tank.

There is improvement now. He eats from my hand and plays around ..so I beleive he's better off. Will keep you all posted. thanks for all your suggestions.
