is there really such a thing as short body fish or are they just stunted fish?
if they are real do they live a full life or do they die young because of this?

From what i know there is no such thing its just a stunted fish which is typically caused by blood poisoning. The fish typically live a shorter much more pain filled life.

In any spawn there are a number of mutations, that could manifest as curved spines, strange shapes. etc and a short body is one mutation.
I usually cull them.

From my understanding its a deformation from birth. In the wild theyd most likely die. But in aquariums its easier to get food :) I'm pretty sure some of the short bodies live full lifes. Maybe and Expert will correct me. Some of those short bodies are cool, been looking for and short body endlicheri my self, but theyr rare, and if they dont live full lifes, i definetly wont get one, so this is something i like to know more about my self :)

Stunted fish is when a normal fish do not grow properly and often living in poor conditions or due to lack of foods. The stunted fish usually don't live longer and do not confused stunted fish with slow-growing fish, its two different things. Short bodied fish with spinal deformity often will live longer and have same lifespan as their normal cousins do. Fancy goldfish don't live longer as their single-tailed cousins but if they are in good husbandry they will live up to 15-20 years. Anyways most goldfish (fancy or not) do not live longer due to the abuse. Blood Parrots will live up to 15-20 years as I have a blood parrot that is 10+ years old right now.
