Pics of a semi-short body albino senegalus vs short body albino senegalus. One day I'll get them in the same tank and take pics. They're almost the same length, but the SB is WAY thicker. Too bad I traded my regular length albino senegalus for comparison, I had all 3 in a tank a while back.

Semi SB:

SB:

And my SBSD, just for kicks :D

that silver dollar looks like an egg
nice albinos that short body is cool looking

I like the SBSD too.. where can I find some? As for your so called short bodied, semi-short albinos, I'm doubting it. Base it on the distance between the various fins on the fish and they are quite similar. One is just a lot fatter. Like putting me next to a guy of the same height but 50 lbs lighter... optical illusion

How do you know that the one isn't just a fatty? If they are about the same length & one's just fatter. Don't forget they are individuals.

This is why I need to stay off the forums, lol :D.
I took pics of both of them so everyone can see the difference. I think it's funny that some people can see the difference and some can't.
Please look at the distance from the head to spines and the difference in head sizes. Judging only from the size of the head, the SB is older/more mature. I am not trying to say this is some sort of new trait/condition, merely saying some short-bodied fish are very short and some are "not so" short. I understand the dwarfism (SB) trait is recessive and no heterozygous condition occurs, but as we see in other animals (as well as humans), the trait expresses itself in different severities among individuals. There are different types of "little people," the genes may be the same, but they are expressed differently (i.e. some are small and have normally proportioned limbs, while others have much shorter limbs). Anyway, I think this is a good conversation as I have seen a few posts on short bodied fish lately; enjoy the pics.

Wonderful bichirs and the SBSD look weird I like the norm better.
How big is the SBSD?

Silver dollar is about 2 1/2"-3", but is taller than it is long! Found him a while back in a batch of new imports when he was less than 1", haven't seen another since, and I've been looking.
